As we welcome 2023 we’re reminded that this is a powerful time to set intentions for the year to come. This month we have two chances to do just that. The first is when the calendar year shifts on January 1st and the second is on January 22nd when many celebrate the Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year.

The Chinese New Year ushers in the year of the rabbit, an animal associated with longevity, peace, and prosperity. It is also said to be the year of hope; a theme that resonates well with us here at Siddhartha.

Yoga studio renovation in process

Wellness typically tops many a New Year’s resolution list and here at Siddhartha, we want to help our guests with their goals. While a healthier life is always a worthy intention, we also realize that there are many ways to work towards it. One wellness tool that we believe in is yoga and with the launch of our new, larger yoga studio we hope that more guests can enjoy the ancient practice.

Our oceanfront open-air pavilion, inspired by traditional Balinese design, is now twice the size and can cater from 25- 30 students. We offer free daily classes and provide the weekly schedule when guests check in.

While yoga is an experience of going inward, having a beautiful view over the water certainly helps build that sense of calm and relaxation.

Honoring the past with Galungan & Kuningan

We may be looking forward but on the island of Bali this January is also a time to look backward… all the way back to our ancestors. Galungan on January 4th is when it is believed that ancestral spirits return to earth and are welcomed by their families. It’s a time of celebration and prayer, cooking and feasting. It’s a period marked by rituals honoring those who have come before us. The festivities continue throughout the start of the month until Kuningan on January 14th when people bid farewell to the spirits as they return to heaven.

January is a month steeped in rituals and celebration, from setting a direction for the year ahead to feasts with family and friends, as well as, in Bali, taking time to honor previous generations.

Before we slip back into routine, this month is where we can embrace and enjoy some of the rituals of the New Year. However you are marking the month of January we wish you much health, happiness, peace, and prosperity for the year ahead.
